NORTHEAST NAVY WIND ENSEMBLE

TO PERFORM IN SUFFIELD

The Suffield Council for the Arts is hosting its 7th Annual Veterans Day Concert on Sunday, November 15, 2008 at Suffield High School, 1060 Sheldon St, W. Suffield, CT.  This year’s band is the Northeast Navy Wind Ensemble from Newport, RI.  Admission is free!

Navy Bands have always been an integral part of the Naval presence in Newport, dating back at least to the Civil War period.  Navy Band Northeast was officially established in 1974, and is one of 11 official bands of the United States Navy.  Under the direction of Lieutenant Carl Gerhard the band is located on board Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island, and serves the military and civilian communities throughout the Northeastern United States.

Navy Band Northeast provides a wide spectrum of musical entertainment. Whether it is the traditional sounds of a military marching band, the swing of jazz, or the contemporary music of today, Navy Band Northeast has a band for most any occasion. Each ensemble inspires patriotism, elevates esprit de corps, and fosters pride in the United States Naval Service.

Navy Band Northeast is recognized as one of the nation's finest military bands. They continually strive to define, realize, and maintain the highest standards of excellence in the military and musical communities.

The Wind Ensemble is a 38 piece band comprised of talented musicians from around the country.  The versatility of this group allows it to play a wide variety of musical styles, including modern and traditional concert band, patriotic favorites, and popular hits of today.  This group was so well received last year, that we decided to have them back again.  This year’s program will be all different music and is sure to please audiences of all ages.  Join us for a memorable afternoon of great music.

The program is open to the public.  It will begin at 2:30 PM with the doors opening at 2 PM.  The facility is handicapped accessible with plenty of parking.  No tickets necessary.  Reserved seating is available for veterans and their families by mentioning this at the door.  Directions available on our website (http://suffieldarts.tripod.com   (no www.)).  For more info, contact Barbara 860-668-2222.
