“WOMEN IN TRANSITION”
Inspired by artists such as Wolf Kahn,
Leroy Neiman and Jonas Jones, three Suffield watercolorists have stepped out of their comfort zone to produce an eclectic
body of work which will be on display at the Kent Memorial Library for the month of January. Carolyn Caldwell,
Laura Lucia, and Lynn Malec have made the transition from watercolor paper to canvas of all sizes, using a palette
built on rich colors of blue, purple, and red along with metallics and whites.
With the addition of tactile substance,
they have enhanced these colors creating texture and movement, pitting matte against gloss, light against dark, warm against
cool,
and visual against emotional.
Carolyn Caldwell is a Suffield paramedic
and a ski patroller at an area mountain. She has studied art at Smith College and McGill
University in Montreal, Quebec. Carolyn has a thought-provoking, ethereal style running through her works.
Laura Lucia, owner of Affordable Framing
in Windsor Locks, CT has studied with Howard Beresford, Lynn Malec, Mary Rosman and Joyce Washer. Along with framing, Laura is
a jewelry designer with a zest for life that is evident in each subject and brushstroke.
Lynn Malec, trained graphic artist, has
studied throughout the country and internationally with many well known artists. A member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society
and the Wickford Art Association of Rhode Island, Lynn teaches class at her studio in Suffield and at the Windsor Locks Senior
Center. Lynn’s
work vividly depicts light and shadow.
The artists will host a reception in the gallery from 6:00
– 8:00 PM, on Thursday, January 7th. The public is invited.
This show is made possible through the
efforts of the artists, the Suffield Arts Council, and the Kent Memorial Library staff.

Suffield Park and Rec ARTful Activites
IDEA?? - Is there interest in making a quilt representing Suffield? The individual blocks could
highlight historic buildings? Or current sites, schools, churches. Groups that have a history in town - Friends,
Garden Club, Masons? I am thinking large 10 ft x 15 ft or larger - to be hung at the town hall. This would
definitely be a group effort, and maybe a year or more of our lives. If you are interested email suffieldarts@gmail.com
