A presentation by Fulbright researcher Kristine Goulding
of Suffield, CT
Is
an Islamic democracy possible? What role should Islamists play in politics? What roles do women play in politics and in the
home? What perceptions do Arab Muslims have of the United States? In this talk,
Goulding will speak about the North African nation of Tunisia, focusing on the
reforms of the last 20 years, which have helped modernize and moderate the country.
Indie Flick - June 25- The Violin
The
old saying that music can soothe the savage beast is both celebrated and challenged in "The Violin," the finely crafted writing-directing
debut of Mexican filmmaker Francisco Vargas. This stark but absorbing drama follows an aging musician, beautifully played
by Don Angel Tavira, who fiddles his way into the front lines of Mexico's peasant revolts during the 1970s.
In
Spanish, with English subtitles.

Sixties' Film Fest - KML
This summer will
have a Sixties' feel at Kent Memorial Library. We hope you all will be Feeding Your Heads with novels and poetry and
plays and whatever interests you might have. (If we don't have an item
that you are looking for in the library, we will gladly try to get it thru inter-library loan for you.)
Picking up on the
theme will be our Sixties' Film Fest. We will be showing 8 movies throughout the summer months on Monday nights.
We will be starting with the quintessential Sixties film, The Graduate, released in 1967, starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne
Bancroft. The flick will be shown on June 30th at 6:30.
Carl Casinghino,
our film guru, will be talking to us about the Sixties Film Genre. His talk will be on Monday, July 7th at 6:30 pm. It will be followed by the movie, Kiss Me, Stupid,
the 1964
American comedy film directed by Billy Wilder and starring Dean Martin and Kim Novak.
We will then continue
through the summer on Monday nights with:
Loving on July 14
Bonnie and Clyde on July 21
2001: A Space Odyssey on July 28th
Point Blank on August 4
The Party on August 11
Bullitt on Aug 18
All the movies
will be shown at 6:30 with the exception
of Kiss Me, Stupid, which will be shown following Carl's discussion. Thank you to the Friends of the Library for helping
us put on this program. Please call Kent Memorial Library in Suffield at 668-3896 or check our website at suffield-library.org for more info.

iTowns – Hartford
Courant – Looking for Artwork
The Courant
(and its web site, courant.com) is developing a new online community news section and Sunday tabloid called iTowns (http://www.courant.com/community/news/en/), and we plan to feature the work of local artists on the print cover. This "community canvas," as we are calling it, will
showcase paintings, drawings, photography and more.
We are enthused
about the possibilities and welcome your involvement. If you have local artwork
that you would like for us to consider publishing, you can send it to us as a digital jpeg file to the email address below.
Works published on our covers will also be posted in an online "gallery" for an indefinite period, along with artist information
and links to art association sites, if available.
If you have
questions or want to learn more, please call. And thanks in advance for considering being a part of this exciting new project.
